Fukurou stared in awe for a few minutes... He'd never come in here before, and for good reason. Fire and libraries don't mix... One little spook before and, wooosh! So Fukurou always had to rely simply on the books Kitsi or Ruu could sneak out for him, or what he could afford to buy on the streets. This however, seemed like it was a whole new world to him, all these books. And now the only question on his mind was, "should I read them alphabetically, or try them in the order I think I would most enjoy them... I have to read all of them..." His voice was something of rapture...

It wasn't that Ryo hated books, it's that books seemed to hate Ryo. It was always a struggle reading the words and making himself finish it. Normally he would have avoided this place like the plague, but Oki was gone and he wanted to read a book for her while she wasn't around. He'd disappointed her a while ago and was hoping this would help make her proud of him again.
He walked up to a bookcase, pulled one out and tried to read a sentence... "Bleh..." He put the book back.

Fukurou had had some time since he was allowed into the library - he'd been at the door anxiously awaiting its opening- and when Ryo actually stood up, so he had found his first book and had become so engorged that he hadn't noticed the 'bleh' from down the isle...
Fukurou hadn't even bothered to sit down, simply started to read from the isle where he stood in front of the empty space that he had pulled the book out of, an owl on each shoulder, and reading to them in quiet but dramatic tones. The worst part was, in accompniment to his voice, and his dramatic tones and rhythm, he looked like he was dressed for a Shakesperian play, and he read the final silliiquy aloud -
"If we shadows have offended, Think but this, and all is mended, That you have but slumber’d here While these visions did appear. And this weak and idle theme, No more yielding but a dream, Gentles, do not reprehend: if you pardon, we will mend: And, as I am an honest Puck, If we have unearned luck Now to ’scape the serpent’s tongue, We will make amends ere long; Else the Puck a liar call; So, good night unto you all. Give me your hands, if we be friends, And Robin shall restore amends"
He waited a second, and then closed the book with a soft but satisfying thud...

Ryo looked over, his attention drawn from the spoken words. Some words he could pick out but others just seemed foreign to him. "Hey, I didn't know they had books in other languages here," he commented to the other. He pulled another book to try reading. Honestly, this was probably not the best isle to him to be looking, but he had no idea where look.

Fukurou smiled at the other enthusiastic (or so it would appear) library-goer. "Pauci viri veros amicos habent, et pauci sunt digni. Amicitia vera est praeclara, et omnia praeclara sunt rara..." Fukurou was quickly coming to the conclusion by sight that the other avid reader was not a reader of old latin texts and stopped...
"They do... But I was merely reading of The Bard, are you not aquainted?"

Ryo looked at the other blankly. "No... Can't say that I am." He moved closer looking over at the book the other had in his hands. "That's a really big book tho... You read a lot?"

Fukurou smiled. "Every chance I get. Ruu here," he motioned to the snowy owl on his left shoulder, "is a fan of comedies, while Kitsi," he motioned to the barn owl on the other shoulder, "likes horror. I myself enjoy a classic of any form..."

Ryo blinked, looking a bit confused at the owls. "You read to them?"

"Of course," Fukurou said with a laugh. "If I didn't, who would?" he said, offering each of his winged friends a little block of cheese each... They were finally starting to lose weight again, not that Ryo would know that though...

"Huh... That's kinda cool." Ryo gave the other a friendly smile. "You just read them for fun?" Ryo hadn't quite gotten to that point with books yet.

Fukurou smiled. He was starting to get the impression that this young boy was not the avid reader his first opinion gave him credit for. "Fun? Dear boy, fun does not come close to explaining the world and adventure you might enter simply by opening the cover of a well-written novel. You have never actually flipped the cover of a well-written story... have you?"

Ryo thought about the question and then shrugged. "I guess I've read some good stories... But I never really thought of books as fun. They're work, aren't they?"

Fukurou shook his head. "Blasphemy says I," he said and nodded to the owls, each of them took off, fluttering to the floor and running about, apparently trying to find their own books.
"Now, these good stories you've read... What kind of stories were they? I intend to correct this theory of 'work' you have associated with reading..."

Aw hell, Ryo was put on the spot. He wasn't entirely comfortable with admitting that he was reading childrens books because he wasn't able to even read his textbook properly. "I dunno," He shrugged it off. "There was this one I remember liking, but it was a long time ago that I read it..."

Fukurou smiled seeing hope in the action. "And was it a tale of knights and beautiful princesses, or pirates on the high seas? Was it a tale of deciet and deception, or of truth and romance. A comedy of errors, or a historical tragety that ends in the death of an honest man for all his troubles and pride?" The fancy-dressed man seemed to be already engorged in a book that as of yet, was still not in his hands...
