There are 3 basic Jutsu a ninja employs during his/her battles, these are Taijutsu, Ninjutsu and Genjutsu, below is a explanation of the three
Taijutsu ("Body techniques", or more figuratively hand-to-hand combat) refers to any techniques involving the martial arts or the optimisation of natural human abilities in general. In some cases chakra is involved to enhance the techniques, but generally speaking a Taijutsu user can fare well without much chakra available compared to a Genjutsu or Ninjutsu user.
Example:
Taijutsu is basicly hand to hand combat so this picture of Uchiha Sasuke throwing a simple punch explains most of it, however, Taijutsu can be much more complex, there are even some Ninja who excell in it, such as Rock Lee
Ninjutsu is hard to define; it is basically any technique that does not fall under either Taijutsu or Genjutsu, which means that it uses sources outside those naturally available to the body or the mind to accomplish its task. Ninjutsu relies on chakra and hand seals (Sequential positions the hands are put into in order to channel chakra effectively).
Example:
This is a picture of Hatake Kakashi using his Chidori technique, although he calls it Lightning Strike for different reasons
Genjutsu (literally translates to "Illusion Techniques") are techniques that rely on chakra-enhanced deception or manipulation of another person's mind. The most commonly seen Genjutsu is simple creation of phantasms- causing the targeted person to hear, see, smell, taste and feel things that are not actually there in order to manipulate them; other applications of Genjutsu are rare.
Now we move onto the more complex stuff, pay attention class this will count for half your grade at the end of the year
Fûin jutsu (Sealing techniques) - the "seal" here may refer to marks upon the body rather than "sealing" something, although the latter is often still the case.
Kekkei Genkai (Bloodline Limits) This is a more tricky one to explain, a Bloodline Limit basicly refers to a certain technique that can only be used inside one family, it is their heritage which is passed down through generation to generation
Example:
This is pretty much what the Byakugen looks like, it is the Hyuuga family Bloodline limit
Kinjutsu (Forbidden Skill). There are techniques and spells created that were forbidden from using because some of the affects were to dangerous to use such as techniques that are used for evil deeds or have fatal chances on the user
