Kaliri worked hard in those days, underground, clearing tunnels and setting up the underground complex. She and Lenore would work till all hours, seeing as how everyone else Kaliri had met since coming to the village had seemed but to all disappear, all abandon her. It was her and Lenore, and that was fine with her. Often, though, Lenore would take off to do some studying, to try to research a lead she'd found, and would be gone for several days at a time. This was one of those weeks, where Kaliri was working underground by herself. She came up from one of the tunnels right around sunset, when the world was bathed in the orange light of the dying day. Ignoring the rest of the world, she went back to work, covering up the hole she'd just made in the clearing of the training grounds. She hated Sunset. That was when she first met Kumori, and when she last saw Otomeken. Kaliri was noticing that she was becoming more and more bitter, more and more ornery as time was going by, shorter temper, more anger. Between the Exams being cancelled/postponed, or whatever, and Rachi, Kumori, Lenore, and Otomeken going away, and the people she thought would be new friends never being seen again... Kaliri was feeling specifically abandoned right about now.
Which is why she wasn't paying as much attention to her surroundings as she should have been.

"Fine, ignore me then," Otomeken's voice drifted through the hole Kaliri was covering back over that she'd popped out of. Otomeken would just sit and wait to see if Kaliri would resurface again once she'd spoken...

Kaliri froze, knowing who the voice belonged to. She deliberately untensed her shoulders and dropped her hands to her sides, then took a deep breath, and created steps for herself up out of the tunnel. She came up above ground level, and turned to face the source of the voice. Otomeken wouldn't be able to see it, but Kaliri had changed much in her absense. Even over the last few weeks, from her hair to her wardrobe to her stance, Kaliri had changed.
"What do YOU want?" She asked, turning back to the tunnel, finally covering it over. "Come to tell me once again how inferior I am? I think I got the memo..."

Otomeken wasn't even facing her. She was sitting with her back against a tree and 'looking' off to the horizon. "Forgot to sign it," Otomeken said, passing it off as a joke, at least on her part since she could hear it wasn't actually meant as one. "Besides, I think you know why I'm here," she said, refering to the oath bond. She figured Kaliri would already know she was preparing to leave, to go home, and how her memory curse had been broken...

Kaliri nodded and bent down to pick up her things. "Yeah. You're going away... So what else is new?" She paused for a moment, then continued. "I have this theory. This theory where you were never really here. None of you. I just made you up to keep myself company." Again, she stopped, then changed her tack again. "So you're going. I don't know why you felt the need to come and tell me that, especially considering..." she waved her arm, and walked over towards Otomeken, sat down on the ground about ten feet away, and shifted to lay on her back, looking up at the stars. "So... why are you here?"

Otomeken shrugged. "Maybe I'm just a figment of your imagination, here to keep you company while you look at the sky..." Otomeken wasn't in the mood to fight, and her tone was still fairly pleasent...

"Maybe" Kaliri mumbled. She didn't say anything this time, just waited for Otomeken to speak, since it was clear she had come for a reason. Figment or no, she wouldn't be there without a purpose.

"What do they look like? The stars I mean. All I can see is blackness up there." It wasn't clear if Otomeken was being cute, just trying to make small talk, or if she really was there for nothing at all, but she certainly wasn't hinting at a purpose just yet at least...

Kaliri sighed, and her mind flipped back to showing Otomeken the drawings she'd made of the girl. One of those drawings was now hanging in Klairi's room, taunting her for lost and failed chances. "Like a million tiny diamonds spread for show over a blanket of black velvet."

Otomeken sighed in rapture. "It sounds beautiful... Well... Actually... It sounds nothing like what it looks like, but that's completely besides the point..." Otomeken went on looking without seeing a thing.
"So, you've been busy I see?"

Kaliri snorted. "It's cold. There's nothing pretty about the cold." She sat up and looked off towards the spot where the hole had been. "You don't know the half of it."

"So then... What's it all for?" Otomeken inquired, sounding genuinely interested in Kaliri and what she was doing, probably for close to the first time. For some reason, whatever it was, Otomeken was acting much more like a person than probably ever before...

Kaliri didn't miss the change of Otomeken's tune, far from it. This was the Otomeken she had seen so long ago, the Otomeken that she had wanted to see for so long. But, she knew for a fact that Otomeken knew that. She was a smart young woman. If she was changing her tune now, there was likely far more at stake, something really big she was going to be asked to do. Still, she saw no reason not to at least hear the other girl out, so she simply carried on. That was, after all, what she did. "I wanted Lenore to tell you, because i remember you talking about leaving before. I guess you two didn't get on so well." For a moment, Kaliri's voice turned hard as she continued. "Why I'm surprised that anyone could not get along with you, I don't know..." Her voice softened again. A little. "Anyway, If they still won't let you out of the village, I might have a solution for you. Let's just say I've... rediscovered a family legacy."

"So I hear. What are you doing all this for anyway?" Otomeken didn't want to shoot down the offer. She wasn't going to run this time. She would wait for Tsunade's permission to leave. Since the curse was broken, she'd learned a few things, and realized a few others...

Kaliri shrugged. "Many different reasons. Following through on my mother's wishes. Proving to my father that I am not falling close to that particular tree. Proving to myself that while I don't seem to fit in anywhere, neither did .... she.... Anyway, Something to fill the long days, I guess. there's not really anyone around for me to share them with." Her voice took on a slightly mourning quality, and it was clear she was talking about Kumori. "And when we found it, I thought... Well, nevermind what I thought. I knew at some point it would come in handy... at least I figure it will." She seemed to realize that she was babbling, so she cut herself off, and waited once again, for Otomeken to direct the conversation.
