Oki's eyes widened briefly for a moment upon hearing the familiar name and then nodded. "Otomeken would be a great teacher. I'm sure once she gets back she'll see that you get right back on track with your training."

Fukurou focused on Oki's eyes. "I see that you either knew her well, or have a rather different take on her than what you actually said," he said with that same, sweet half grin, trying to place the sudden surprise he saw within her eyes and disipher what it actually meant...

"I did know her well, we studied together at the academy and she was a brilliant student. We fought against one another in a tournament, and it was one of the hardest spars I've ever had. I meant exactly what I said in that she's be an excellent teacher; I can only see her skills improving over time. I just haven't seen her in a long time, and hadn't heard the name."

Fukurou nodded, satisfied with the answer. "Then it will sadden you to learn that she has lost her sight completely and told me to prepare for her not to return from this mission. I'm sorry to be the bearer of such news, but find comfort in the fact that while she didn't seem optimistic, she seemed happy to be on her way, and more determined than I have ever seen her previously..."

"I am sorry to hear it," Oki said with a small nod. "But I do hope that she's wrong. Will you be set up with a new teacher in case she doesn't come back from this mission?"

"This village has no shortage of those willing to teach," Fukurou observed. "You yourself without even knowing my name attempted to improve my throw and offered the instruction in water jutsu - I'm sure I'll be just fine. Kitsi and Ruu wouldn't let me stop training at any rate."
He continued to study Oki's reactions, hoping he wasn't speaking as one that might be construed as condescending...

"That's a fair point," Oki said thoughtfully, then laughed. "You'll be just fine, and I'm sure you'll be able to show Kitsi and Ruu a thing or two by the time you're done."

"To instruct the instuctor - the goal of student and teacher alike, is it not?" His half grin grew at least a little more full.
Ruu made his agreeance in Oki's arms. "Bwurrrrp!"
Kitsi simply rolled his eyes and returned to his rest...

Oki grinned. "It's a poor student who doesn't one day surpass their teacher." She ruffled Ruu's feathers again. "And I'm sure both you and Kitsi will learn a few things along the way. Maybe you'll even learn to fly!"

Ruu continued to twirp in Oki's arms under her soft carress.
Across from them, Fukurou shook his head. "I'm going to have to listen to him about this for a week. You my friend," he said switching his attention to the snowy owl, "have an ego problem."
To that, Ruu's beak went to the air and he continued to twitter, more or less at Oki now...

Oki giggled and looked apologetically up at Fukurou. "Sorry. But he is quite the character and I've never seen an owl so close up before."

"I suppose," Fukurou said with a little chuckle," They are rather unorthadox companions, aren't they?"
He fidgited into his pockets and pulled out a few small blocks of cheese and held them out to drop them into Oki's hand. For some reason, people really enjoyed giving the owls their treats...

Oki happily took the cheese and offered one of the pieces to Ruu, and another she held out to Kitsi in an effort to make peace.
"They are a little, but they seem wonderful! But you can really understand them?"

Both owls happily took the treats, though Oki would have to walk Kitsi's over to him since he wasn't going to move for it...
Fukurou cocked his head to one side and gave her somewhat of an inquisitive look. "Yes," he said almost as a question mark. "Do you think only humans have language or wish to communicate?"

Oki more than happily waled Kitsi's treat over to him, then shook her head to Fukurou's question. "No! Not at all. It's just... unusual for a human to be able to understand owls or any other animals. The closest I've ever seen was a parrot that someone had taught to swear, but I don't think 'Show us yer drawers!' really counts as communicating. You're pretty impressive, Fukurou."
